Marcus Curly talks about the creation history of some of his songs in his own words.
From Berlin to Warsaw
The lyrics of this song are based on a very disturbing nightmare I had in late December 2021, where I was in a badly bombed city and I knew my loved one was studying in another city. The phone connections were down and I was worried whether the city where my loved one was was also bombed and if she was even alive. My only chance to get to her was by train. I had to walk through the ruined city to the next train that was on its way there. I very rarely have nightmares and when I woke up, the dream felt very real and the oppressive feeling it caused lasted for days.
The very next day after the nightmare, I started composing and I finished recording the music tracks for the song at the turn of the year 2021/2022. A few months later, the largest war since World War II began in Europe – the dream was a strange premonition.
Looking back, I’m a little disappointed that I released the song in such a hurry, even though the vocal performance could have been done a little better.

It’s Hard in August
On an August evening in 2022, I was visiting someone very close to me. During the evening, she told me that she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and I saw in her eyes a heartbreaking sadness and anguish, because she understood what the future held and that the expected end would not be pretty.
When I exceptionally walked home, and not by car as usual, it was a beautiful late summer evening. As I walked leisurely, in no hurry, I thought about our times together as the wind gently caressed the hay meadows, making them look like sea waves under the August full moon. The thoughts and the strong visual image after the walk made me write the body of the song’s lyrics that same night. The music quickly emerged in the following days.
For some reason, perhaps intentionally, I forgot about the song for a long time. However, while listening to old studio recordings in January 2025, I decided to release the song. But even in this case, the vocal performance would have needed a little polishing.
